A Great Day for a Footy Clinic!

Monday, July 16, 2018 - 12:45 PM

Following on from the weather event postponement in week one of the school holidays, our rescheduled Claremont District Footy Clinic in week 2 was a huge success!

140 male and female participants, sprinted, jumped, kicked and handballed their way from one end of Claremont Oval to the other. But more importantly than that, they smiled and laughed with their friends right through the day, which was wonderful to see.

Guided by players from the Claremont senior WAFL team and assisted by WAFC staff members, groups of children split up into their year groups and had exposure to a wide range of Australian Rules techniques. Skills stations worked on specific themes such as ball handling, ball disposal, kicking drills, evasion and positioning and the best part was, it was all disguised as fun participation games.

After the lunch break, modified mini games took centre stage. Then as a special treat, participants were not only taken through the Claremont players' rooms but they were also taken into the inner sanctum of the club, the player lecture theatre. This is the room where match tapes are studied, tactics are calculated and finely tuned and opponents are assessed.

We've had an enormous amount of positive feedback from this clinic. It was close to a sell out. The kids looked sensational in their brand new Claremont Tigers training shirts.  We look forward to seeing everyone again at our next holiday clinic. Remember to book early!
