Coaching Education Sessions

Thursday, July 26, 2018 - 7:16 PM

Over the last 6 weeks Metro North Coach Coordinator, Wes Moran  has been conducting Club based education sessions across all of our districts.

The sessions have covered topics such as game sense training and the benefits of the modern coaching technique, skill acquisition and game understanding. Coaches have been discovering the importance of increased touches of the footy during training sessions and what the recommended level of touches per player per training session is. The session also covered an often over looked aspect of coaching, how to connect with the players and help them to become talented people - not only within our football clubs but in the wider community. Discussions at each session has been very strong and well received by Wes and the coaches involved.

On Tuesday the 24th of July, Wes conducted the first fundamental skill-based session, which covered the basics of tackling. The session included a theory component, which outlined the three main tackles junior players are likely to encounter, umpiring of a tackle and what coaches should be doing to teach their kids on how to avoid using a dangerous tackle and finally, a practical component covering four basic drills. These not only included some of the fundamentals of the game but are a safe and engaging way to improve tackling technique.  Six exercises were shown in the session, including a ‘new age’ warm up which is fun and engaging. These exercises are great means to teach stability and the basics on how to fall safely in the event of a tackle.

There are a few club based education session still available in 2018 please see the link below to register to attend, as well as one more session available in 2018 to attend the tackling session. These sessions are the easiest way for coaches to gain the required points for their accreditation in 2018.
