GO RICHO!!! - One of the most consistent performing tigers over the past four years is Ian Richardson. We caught up with "Richo" for a chat and asked him about where he played his junior footy.
I played all my junior footy at West Coast all the way from under 6's to 17's.
And coming up through the colts and reserves were you always a forward?
Colts I played forward flank and a bit in the middle and ressies mainly in the middle.
And what AFL side did you you follow growing up?
I was always a big Eagles fan. I still support them I guess but it's a bit weird watching a few of my mates from Claremont playing with them.
You're a left footer but are you one of these people that plays sport left-handed but write with their right hand?
Yeah I do actually and I handball right handed.
Do you swing the cricket bat left handed as well?
Yep, left handed batsman, ask Andrew Browne I have hit him round a few times.
On Saturday in the scratch match against West Perth you played mostly in the back line is that a sign of things to come?
No. I was talking with Simon McPhee before the game and he thought it would be a good idea as it was a practice game to work on my defensive skills. I haven't played down there much so it was a good learning curve and it should help me playing forward.
For the past few years a lot of people have predicted you'll be picked up by an AFL side, do you think it will happen?
Yeah I've heard that talk for quite a while now. I think in recent times with mature age guys being picked there's always a chance. I don't really focus on that anymore if my chances have gone then they've gone, I'm just enjoying my time at Claremont.
WAFL players that have played at AFL level say the intensity and pressure is something they need to adjust to, was last year's grand final the most intense game you've played in?
Yeah definitely it was up an extra 10% in speed. I know myself I probably needed to get a bit more preparation in my body as I was cramping up a fair bit so that's what I've worked on over the pre-season trying to get a few more kilometres out of my legs to prepare for games like that.
What do you do off the field?
I just finished my degree in construction management and have started full time work with Emco one of our main sponsors so working with them on construction sites.
Give us the dirt on some of your team mates - who has the worst fashion sense?
Definitely Tommy Ayton or Andrew Ruck.
Who would you least like to share a room with?
Kane Mitchell, you can never shut him up.
Who is most likely to Google his own name?
Ryan Brabazon likes to think of himself fairly highly so he would be into that.
Who at the club do you think has the potential to be a star in the AFL?
If he gets a crack Chaddy Jones, from the younger blokes coming I would say Jeremy McGovern's got a fair bit of talent.
